Tips To Improve Your Organic Garden Today!

Old laundry baskets are handy tools at harvest time. The laundry basket is a perfect strainer for any produce run off. Rinse off your produce while it’s in the laundry basket, and any excess water will be strained out through the basket’s holes.

Do you want to kill weeds in a natural way? To control the growth of weeds, all you need is last week’s Sunday paper. Weeds can only grow in sunlight. If you put a thick layer of newspaper on them, weeds will not be able to get light or air, and they will die! Newspapers tend to break down into compost nicely. Of course, you may wish to cover the paper with mulch to make it appear more attractive.

To discourage garden pests, try making your own organic spray by mixing garlic, chives, or onion with water. Mix chopped garlic, chives and onions into half a cup of water, and then place it in a spray bottle.

Your soil will be healthier if you add mulch. A couple of inches of mulch will protect what lies beneath it. It will keep the soil cool in the summer, which protects the roots. Mulch also slows the rate at which water evaporates, which improves your soil’s ability to retain moisture. It will also serve as a method of controlling unwanted weeds.

Plant trees on your property in such a way as to maximize the amount of shade they provide your house. Doing so will reduce your energy usage and save you money, since the trees will shade your home and cool it naturally.

Gardening, especially organic gardening, helps you feel more “at one” with the earth. Any form of gardening gives a basic outline for all others; teaching you the general methodology behind sewing, planting, and harvesting properly.

If you’d like to create a raised bed, use materials like brick, stone, or untreated wood. For best results, you should only use wood that has not been treated with chemicals or protective coating. Some good woods are locust, cedar and cypress. Treated wood has chemicals that can be harmful to a vegetable garden. If you have placed treated wood in your garden, line it with a coat of plastic.

Think about what you need to use while getting ready to garden. Try using natural alternatives instead of the chemicals you normally use. One easy method is to use compost. Organic methods keep the soil clean, which in turn keeps the drinking water non-toxic.

Try to use at least three inches of some organic material for mulching trees and flowers. This strategy is highly effective because it benefits both your wallet and your planet. Water conservation is a major environmental concern that accompanies other, non-organic gardening practices. You will find that it can look quite great as well.

Plant high-value crops in your garden. Buy what crops you personally like in large quantity. If you grow veggie plants that cost a lot at the supermarket, you can save a lot of money. Plant foods you love to eat and enjoy the cost savings.

Use fresh water outside to clean your vegetables, and then save the water and use it in your garden. The water adds valuable nutrients back to your soil. When cleaning your vegetables, don’t use any cleaners.

Don’t buy any more low-quality produce from the supermarket. Use the tips offered here and you can produce your very own vegetables and fruits.
