Gardening Tips for Planting Bulbs
Always A Favorite – Flower Bulbs
One favorite gardening idea is planting flower bulbs. There’s just something about putting bulbs deep in the dirt, then seeing beautiful flowers peek through the ground. Planting bulbs is nearly foolproof, so even if you aren’t experienced, my gardening advice is to practice your green thumb abilities by growing bulbs.
The hardest part about planting bulbs maybe choosing which flowers you want to plant first. You can get gardening ideas for design and what bulbs you’d like to plant in many stores, through catalogs or online.
When the bulbs arrive, it’s best to plant them as soon as the ground is cool, which in most places would be about the same time as the first frosts. If necessary, you can store bulbs in a cool, dry place for up to a month, but it’s best to get them in the ground as soon as possible. Bulbs won’t keep over winter for next year’s garden.
A Special Gardening Idea
Be sure to keep the label with your bulbs until they’re planted. You can’t tell what color flower a bulb will produce just by looking at it. Bulbs need to be planted at different depths, and the label will also give you that information.
You can do your bulb gardening just about anywhere but wet soil. Bulbs don’t do well in places that are continually damp. Make sure the soil is loose and workable, and add organic matter to new gardening spots.
The most important gardening advice to remember when planting bulbs is to plant the pointy end up, though most times even if you mess it up, the plant will still find the way to the surface.
If you follow these few guidelines and the instructions on the label, your bulb gardening adventure should be a great success.
